OUTFIT// TOO BIG + TOO SMALL = WHY NOT?

Something weird happened recently. I bought a pair of short jean shorts. Where in the history of life have you seen me in short, shorts? Who is this person?

I'm the one who wears men's shorts. All the time... on purpose. Baggy, Drop-crotched, diaper bootied, over-sized shorts.

And then, this happened.

Shop The Shorts!

Really tho? Me being who I am, tried to hide under a vest which is, you guessed it: 2 sizes too large. This is what it looks like "un-zooshed"

It's supposed to be tied around the waist for a kimono effect, like so:

Shop The Vest!

Pretty fresh... but "too much tuna" (those that know, KNOW) But I've got a bright idea! I'm gonna' take that built in belt, tie it behind me to keep the jacket perma-open in an "effortlessly easy" folded look.

Here's the knot. You won't see from the back or side and from the front, it'll look good.

With the knot in place, the vest pretty much stays in this position all day.

The top underneath is an ATM knit piece. Lovely, no?

OUTFIT// DRESS UP DRESS DOWN

Not too dressy, not too casual, juuuuuuuusssssst right. That's the goal.

Full look:

What you see here is a dressy ALC button up shirt, worn with men's leather shorts, an Isabel Marant vest, Gianvito Rossi heels and YES a bolo!

First the shirt: meant to be worn dressy (trousers, pencil skirt) on it's own the shirt is a little too serious and begs to be worn with personality or run the risk of being stiff. But it's beautifully made!

Giving the shirt "personality" with this bolo. Why do bolos get such a bad wrap? I'm definitely advocating for the "step children" of the wardrobe: vests, bolos ...

Not really what you might reach for to wear with this shirt but the look needs energy and structure, no?

OUTFIT// DRESSING ALL OVER THE PLACE

Here's the thing: screwy LA weather is to blame for the "all over the place" outfits this city has become known for. Think: short, short with Uggs or tank top with beanie... are we hot or are we cold or are we both?!

While you wouldn't catch me dead in either of the combos above, you will catch me trying to master the "all over the place" look because Yes, I am HOT and I am COLD and I have no idea at what point in the day I'm gonna' feel normal.

Here's a look at making "all over the place" the theme of the outfit with HOPEFULLY an outcome we all like. You be the judge!

Full look:

What you're looking at is an Alexander Wang t-shirt worn with a ruffled skirt (gasp) and a gilet aka a vest.

First key to dressing "all over the place" was to pick the ONE item that would keep me warm but not too warm! Enter your wardrobe's most neglected item... THE VEST!

She's warm enough, not a jacket yet - so she's not overdoing it. This one I juuuuust got on super sale from the Outnet! Hallelujah, who else scored during the Isabel Marant sale? Chosen for it's color... navy, draping and design deets!

Look how pretty it just FALLS into the best shape and has structure where it needs to.

In the winter - I'll just hide under the flaps.

For now - letting it hang!

Second part to dressing "all over the place" - basic tee and any separate - went with this ruffled skirt, because the vest is so bulky, I needed some balance below. Ruffles bring volume.

Shoes: listen, this could have been worn with ankle boots but it's me you guys!

What do you think? Is this making "all over the place" work or still looking nuts? Sigh.

HOW MANY LAYERS CAN ONE WOMAN WEAR

Olive green, army green, military green, how many items of the same color family can I put on my body? Let's count em'! Here's the full look:

First layer: a silk tank and shorts. Please note the overall rule to this look... it ain't got to match, it just has to "go".

Second Layer: another silk, this time long sleeved. Purpose of this layer: coverage. Check all the great design deets too!

Hanging pieces, oversized sleeve, epaulets, normally I'd say this is too many things, but the basic layer NEEDS a push.

Third layer: a directional vest. Purpose of this layer: provide shape and structure. Otherwise, I'd be drowning in a sea of silky loose vibes. Nothing wrong with that, but I think this is stronger.

Fourth layer: a scarf. Purpose of this layer: pop of color and playing with length. Without this scarf I'd be a green machine. With the scarf there's more dimension.

You know what time it is!

PS - I DO have a hat I could have thrown on, but I think we'd all agree I've got plenty "look" going as it is! Am I the only person still doing the head to toe monochrome looks? Talk to me.

CAMOUFLAGE MY FACE

Travel on top of travel means jet lag and a tiiiiiiiirrrrreeeed looking face. But alas, there's an app for that. Sike, there's an outfit for that!

Seriously, when feeling lack-luster, I dial up the fashions to "camouflage" my face. In this case, with actual camo print.

What you see here, is an APC camo print shirt and an architectural vest. The hope is that people will be delighted AND distracted. Now you see me... now you don't!

The difficulty with this particular vest is that it could "wear you" because of it's exaggerated proportions.

But I'm wearing it with a bold shirt to let the world know, I ain't afraid!

Balancing act: black jeans and the go-to travel boots.

What do you do to "camo" your face? Leave a comment why dontcha'!
