OUTFIT// EXTRA TRANSITIONAL

If you've been on the 'gram - you've seen ALL of LA post "Fall-ish" photos because somehow the weather is under 75 degrees. But let's keep it real, although it's 50 something in the morning and 48 something at night, it still gets up to 69 dog-gone degrees at 2PM, so....

Crazy dressing ensues!

What you see here is as transitional/schizophrenic as dressing gets without looking MESSY. This is an Alexander Wang cropped sweater worn with leather shorts, a kimono style cardigan and ye ol Gianvito Rossi pumps.

First the sweater and shorts. Is there anything less practical than a sweater (meant to keep you warm) being cropped? But do we care? NOPE! In fact when the goal is to be warm enough but not too damn warm, this puppy does the trick!

READY FOR A CROPPED SWEATER? ALL PRICE RANGES HERE!

These are my favorite leather shorts - they're from a Japanese men's brand (you know me honey, shopping in the men's dept) AGAIN this is a transitional piece... why? Leather shorts are too hot for the summer, yet they're shorts so kinda' not right for the Fall/Winter.

So right tho'!

OUTFIT//OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Looking at this, you might say "where are the opposites - other than black and bone"? WELP... read on!

What you're looking at is a Margiela knit over Mackage leather leggings, worn with OOOOLLDDD OG Isabel Marant tassel boots and a collarless Isabel moto jacket.

Let's talk about opposites - in this case, it was about softness with hard. The knit sweater is super soft in all senses of the word. Loose fitting, delicately made, it's thin and neutral etc.

Paired with leather leggings - that are psychologically "fierce" they're not easy to wear, they're tough, but the right kind of tough.

The boots although black are super bohemian with fringe and tassels. They're scrunchy NOT structured and still they have that fierce triangle heel and chain in the front.

Are you smelling what I'm selling? My thinking is there's an overall balance happening that goes beyond color.

GREY ALL DAY

Grey is everything. It has the seriousness of black without the severity. It's flattering. And I'm living in it these days. Here's proof.

What you see here is a dress UNDER a sweater, all greys of different shades co-existing.

Turn out.

TRY OTHER PEOPLE'S STYLES :: BOHEMIAN VIBES

When it comes to personal style, I'm not even 1% bohemian. However, I believe in trying other styles of dressing, in order to:

1. Hone in on your own personal style  2. Get yourself out of a style rut

3. Have some fun and explore other sides of your personality

You might find that you aren't just one thing, but have facets to your personality. If that's the case, your wardrobe should give you the opportunity to play. AND you should "play"

This is the only maxi skirt I own, bought it for a very specific event. But this Zara skirt is the inspiration for the whole outfit.

Building on the colors and print of the skirt, so this t-shirt made sense. Simple sweater to anchor the print. Check out the relationship between the tee and the skirt. LURVE IT!

Instead of thinking "this outfit is bohemian enough, I'm wearing a maxi skirt after all!"  I'm taking it a step further with this Indian embroidered scarf with poms. Neutral colors keep me from going into crazy lady land.

Now jacket... this one is tricky, because I could have gone with something printed and tasseled or embroidered, BUT I have enough going on. Went with a neutral, deconstructed field jacket. Bringing shape to the outfit was the goal here.

Siiiiiiicccccckkkkkkkk.

I'm all for a personal uniform of something that "works for you" as long, as you don't feel like you've dialed it in with what's easy. Doing what's easy leads to uninspired dressing - which is a life no-no!

Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort to see what shakes out!

LAYERING FOR COMFORT :: T SHIRT DRESS

I hear a lot of women say that comfort is their most important criteria when getting dressed. In an effort to make sure "comfort" doesn't become "shlubby" (you and I both know this is a problem) here are some thoughts on stylish layering over a  comfortable, yet potentially unbecoming garment: the T SHIRT dress.

What you see here is a t-shirt dress (nervous sigh) under a button up shirt, under a sweater, under a jacket.

Here's the basic piece. A T by Wang t-shirt dress. Comfortable? Yes. Flattering? Not so much.

Now where to start with our layering? We're not gonna just throw stuff on - that's a sure-fire way to end up looking random. Instead we're going to pick up on the low hanging fruit and build on color, in this case blue AND we are going to pick up on the hem detail in the design of the dress, to build a cohesive look. In this case, the dress is shorter in the front and longer in the back.

Throw a shirt on it! Not only is it blue, but it's multiple blues, bringing some interest to our basic.

It also picks up on our "short in the front, long in the back" inspiration from the dress!

Sweater time! Could reach for a basic navy sweater here, but that would be a missed opportunity.

Say what? More "short in the front, long in the back" action. Triple threat!

It's jacket time and you know what I would say, throw a print on it! Same color family please.

Done and doner. I'm actually comfy but look pulled up. Question, comments, jokes? Talk to me.
