GETTING DRESSED WITH VB//MEN'S LEATHER SHORTS LOOK

The reaction to the first video of Getting Dressed was overwhelming! I'm happy to keep making them as long as you keep wanting them and actual work doesn't get in the way. I'm a producer first and a style lover second. A girl's gotta' eat!

STYLE INSPO// PRINT MIX PERFECTION

Usually - I'm the one providing the print mix outfits, but I've gathered a handful of inspiring images to show you how the super pros do it.

Before you tell me that real people can't dress like this, may I kindly remind you of two things:

1) This is for inspiration - take it easy.

2) This is me you're talking to, OF COURSE you can dress like this ; )

The best part of this gallery is that it shows there's a mix for everyone, the vintage girl, the floral fanatic, the minimalist, the woman who only wears black and white.

BEHOLD babies!

OUTFIT// LESS SEXY MORE REXY PT 2

Some of us aren't comfortable showing a lot of skin and by some of us I mean me. I want to be, but whatever - we are who we are.

I tell myself "Self,  experiment why don't you?" but inevitably I find (not so) sneaky ways to un-sexy my "sexy".

Here's a perfect example:

What you're looking at are short shorts that look like a skirt and an oversized, boxy top.

The top came with a SUPER skin tight pencil skirt. I LOVED the print and got both pieces- BUT I got the top that was already designed to be oversized - 1 size larger. I knew if I did this, the fit would be baggy and balance out the sexiness. Check out the sick texture, color and pattern on this THANG!

SHOP PRINTED TOPS

One thing I like to think of when shopping is, how can I make it look like I wear skirts sometimes, even though I don't like to.  Enter SKORTS.  I know, gross. But you know what I mean!

SHOP PRINTED SHORTS

Ahhhh... the "sensible black ankle boot" it's a wardrobe staple. Unavoidable. But also a great way to anchor looks from being too showy. Imagine this outfit with a stiletto. Exactly. It would be hot, but NOT TODAY.

SUEDE ANKLE BOOTS

You might be asking - why so shy about showing skin, when you're wearing ridiculous, seizure inducing prints? A girl's gotta' have something.

Patterns in the same color family = winning.

OUTFIT//BUSY MESSY DRESSY

It's a miracle - I'm wearing a dress! It's a double miracle, because this dress was purchased on super sale and is the new version of a dress I wish I bought at the Isabel Marant store in Paris 5 years ago and have been kicking myself about ever since.

Here's the full look:

Dress on it's own: visually messy, it's got folds, tucks, layers, print (s) ruching, and for a short girl... this is a tricky one.

Check out the madness in the pattern.

SHOP THE DRESS

For a woman who doesn't like belting things, I sure as hell knew this dress needed breaking up. Here are two belts, one with some sick hardware and a simple black leather.

Worn together - both tied in a loop, for a messy look.

Breaks up the visual noise, no?

SHOP THE BELTS

Movement is a good thing.

Would have been SO easy to put on a black shoe... but you know what time it is!

SHOP THE SHOE

Every Fall there is A PIECE it's THE ONE, for me it's a jacket that I am dying for and will wear for as long as possible. This Isabel Marant blazer is the one for me!

Strong shoulder, kinda collarless around the neck, but has a lapel (what??) and I have NO idea how to describe the way this puppy was manufactured, but get into it.

I'd love to hear what that ONE SPECIAL PIECE is for you! Leave a comment why dontcha'?

OUTFIT// WEAR SOMETHING THAT SCARES YOU

NEVER, EVER would I wear this outfit. I know I'm wearing it and I know I print mix a lot, but stick with me for a second.

The jeans and t-shirt that make up this outfit are pieces that were given to me by wonderful people who's taste I trust.

I don't subscribe to the "you must wear what you've been gifted" thinking. If I don' like something I find it a happy home. But these two piecesI knew would challenge me and my comfort zone, and YES that is a good thing!

So, when I put this on today I said "LAWD a mercy! I would never wear this. Who am I anyway? Why am I putting these together instead of breaking these up into mostly black outfits like a sane human being, who's intimated by these separates?"

Because it would be BORING! But mostly, because I like to test myself to see if I have the guts to pull things off. Fashion for me, can be a series of personal challenges. I was scared to wear this mostly, BUT the color-palette works and the shapes work beautifully.

The lace pattern isn't me, but what could go wrong really? Toughen up sister.

I recommend with as much consideration for good taste and sensibility for tailoring, to wear something that is outside the norm, to see what you're really made of.

Who are you really?
