OUTFIT//SWEATSHIRT DRESS QUIRKY REALNESS

Listen. I know this look isn't for everybody, but I have to say the sweatshirt dress is going to be a MAJOR moment for me this fall.  HOWEVER, I had to get crafty because this "dress" is actually a 3.1 Phillip Lim Men's sweatshirt... meant to be worn as an actual shirt.

Let's get into it!

What you're looking at is a 3.1  men's sweatshirt with a mock shirt sewn in at the hem to look like there's a button up underneath. Wearing it with a men's Rag and Bone camo jacket and super feminine red, suede Prada heels and men's socks. LAWDAMERCY.

First the dress: a girl's gotta' do what a girl's gotta' do and when I can't find the pieces I'd like to be wearing, I do stuff like this. Got this piece in the men's section a few sizes large to wear it as a mini dress.

Sweatshirt on top and sewn in "shirt" used as my "skirt"

Comfortable. Styl-ey (technical fashion term)  and fresh!

The one thing I'll say about sweatshirt dresses, is to get one that fits like an oversized sweatshirt. It's just cooler looking. Resist the urge to get some "cinched at the waist" thing. Please.

Jacket time? More from the men's department. I realize this jacket isn't a perfect color match to the sweatshirt  - on purpose. Need dimension baby, texture baby.

Now the shoes were a risk - but you see what I was going for right? Picking up the red from the "dress" adding a BRIGHT pop of color to an otherwise monochrome  outfit. Tried to make it practical with the socks but also QUIRKY. Why not?

RED SUEDE HEELS, ANYBODY?

FUN SOCKS?

Full look. Full quirky realness. What say you?

PHILOSOPHY ON PERSONAL STYLE

Obvious fact: People perceive things about you, (whether you like it or not) based on how you present yourself. This is NOT about whether people should judge you on your taste. We all know judging ain't nice.

I'm talking about the basics - what you put on your back "says" something about you. For better or worse.

My philosophy: when it comes to personal style, the most important thing is to have a perspective and then ask yourself if the clothes you're wearing communicate it or not.

IF you're a person who enjoys travel and learning about new cultures, how will I know that about you? You get the point.

It's not about getting crazy or being too literal - it's just about perspective and taking the opportunity when you get dressed, to honor it.

Today, I was "adventurous, bold, comfortable in her own skin girl"

HOW MUCH FUN ARE YOU HAVING WITH YOUR CLOTHES?

I've heard women from all walks of life tell me how uninspired they are with their wardrobes. That's no good and should be remedied, stat.

But digging deeper, there's another layer- which is literally having fun with clothing because what you're wearing has a story, makes you laugh, is ironic... you see where I'm going right?

It's important to have a little fun with your wardrobe. Enter this 1980's bootleg Gucci sweatshirt!

This sweatshirt is hilarious because Gucci didn't make this. It was a bootleg made in the 80's, which was found on Ebay, made it's way into my closet and then onto my body. It's vintage kinda' and confusing for sure. Anywhere I wear it, it either starts a conversation, furrows brows of people trying to figure out if it's "real" or side eye from people who think I'm really wearing a Gucci sweatshirt. Jokes on you suckas... or me... whatever.

Check out the baggy 80's fit! YES! Paired with baggy RTA jeans to balance proportions and make the "slouchy" thing, a THING.

Pulling from the color/theme in the sweatshirt - my jeans and my kicks are faded black as well. Nike SBs picking up the yellow and red. Also, notice the gold lace accessories? Again, bringing old things back for fun!

Speaking of old things as the theme. Remember the first generation IPOD? OHHH! You don't? Sigh.

Finally topping off the look with a fun camo jacket in the same color family, but refining the look some. Leather sleeves and great construction add some luxe to my look.

Thatsaboutit!

DO YOU SHOP IN THE MEN'S SECTION?

I do! And I LURVE IT! Shopping in the men's section means more options and often times styles that aren't available to us gals. Here's a shopping (not so secret) of mine. Next time you're at a Zara, go into the men's section. You'll see what I mean.

Here's a look from the Rag and Bone's Men's section!

What you see here, is a matchy camo shorts and jacket combo. Do you think these cool separates were represented in the women's collection? No ma'am they were NOT.

Now for the women's elements - black button up and a creamy, dreamy oatmeal sweater. As if, to let the world know that I'm still a lady and a sporty one - a bejeweled bolo by George and Laurel!

You know what time it is! Throw a cap on it.

On the days where I'm looking to be (sorry to use annoying descriptors but it's true) edgy and sporty, I turn to men's clothes. This look wouldn't be as interesting if it weren't for the over-sized and boxy fit of these separates.

What say you?

CAMOUFLAGE MY FACE

Travel on top of travel means jet lag and a tiiiiiiiirrrrreeeed looking face. But alas, there's an app for that. Sike, there's an outfit for that!

Seriously, when feeling lack-luster, I dial up the fashions to "camouflage" my face. In this case, with actual camo print.

What you see here, is an APC camo print shirt and an architectural vest. The hope is that people will be delighted AND distracted. Now you see me... now you don't!

The difficulty with this particular vest is that it could "wear you" because of it's exaggerated proportions.

But I'm wearing it with a bold shirt to let the world know, I ain't afraid!

Balancing act: black jeans and the go-to travel boots.

What do you do to "camo" your face? Leave a comment why dontcha'!
