GETTING DRESSED WITH VB// A NEW SERIES

A couple interesting things have been happening lately:

#1 People have been asking if I'm a wardrobe stylist and although that's flattering, the answer is no.

#2 People have been asking for a closer look at my outfits. What the Instagram mirror selfie ain't enough? Kidding!

As long as there is time (yes, I have day job) and as long as you keep asking - I'd like to introduce a new video series called GETTING DRESSED! In each video I'll showcase a look, give a little strategy behind it and make some shopping recommendations for you to look into.

It's basically the answer to "V, what zeee hell are you thinking with that lewk?"

Still in development, but here's the first installment.

Basic strategy - mix both masculine (shopped in the men's section) and feminine pieces for a balance #lewk. What say you?

OUTFIT//BUSY MESSY DRESSY

It's a miracle - I'm wearing a dress! It's a double miracle, because this dress was purchased on super sale and is the new version of a dress I wish I bought at the Isabel Marant store in Paris 5 years ago and have been kicking myself about ever since.

Here's the full look:

Dress on it's own: visually messy, it's got folds, tucks, layers, print (s) ruching, and for a short girl... this is a tricky one.

Check out the madness in the pattern.

SHOP THE DRESS

For a woman who doesn't like belting things, I sure as hell knew this dress needed breaking up. Here are two belts, one with some sick hardware and a simple black leather.

Worn together - both tied in a loop, for a messy look.

Breaks up the visual noise, no?

SHOP THE BELTS

Movement is a good thing.

Would have been SO easy to put on a black shoe... but you know what time it is!

SHOP THE SHOE

Every Fall there is A PIECE it's THE ONE, for me it's a jacket that I am dying for and will wear for as long as possible. This Isabel Marant blazer is the one for me!

Strong shoulder, kinda collarless around the neck, but has a lapel (what??) and I have NO idea how to describe the way this puppy was manufactured, but get into it.

I'd love to hear what that ONE SPECIAL PIECE is for you! Leave a comment why dontcha'?

OUTFIT// PENCIL SKIRT + MEN'S SHIRT

You know what time it is - balancing act of a sexy, feminine piece with a bunch of other elements.

The full look:

What you see here is an edgy, yet sexy pencil skirt from Avelon, paired with a men's t-shirt and wedge sneaks.

First the skirt - chosen for it's texture and color. The color and pattern speaks for itself and the feel of the skirt is super spongy. Texture is everything with "simple" looks.

One side white and spotted... one side green and psychedelic. It's good to go with risky pieces when shopping- they pay off. Truly.

Tucked in a men's Vince tee. In my mind bringing boxy to sexy balances the overall vibes.

This jacket is a "non-jacket" jacket. It covers enough to feel substantial, but obviously let's the baby breezes of summer run through!

If I was going for evening, I'd have a hot stiletto popping, but I'm running to production meetings all day honey - you know it's sneaker time.

1 SHORT SET 2 WAYS

I don't know. Sometimes being matchy is a good thing. Sometimes it's not and the difference comes down to quality of fabric, fit and whether or not the look "wears you" or you "wear it"

When I got this short set,  part of my brain said "Listen V, this could be considered a purchase that's too limiting. There aren't too many applications where this shorts situation is gonna' pan out for you" and the other part of my brain said

"I'll show you, BRAAAIINN"

So here's the matchy short set worn two ways. For work and for weekend. First the short set itself.

It's all about embroidery this season (so say the fashion gawds)

How to be taken seriously in a short set? A blazer and sensible ankle boot of course.

A smart watch, serious.

And now for the weekend... a bohemian jacket and sandal of course.

Details, shmeetails.

Listen, I know it's a lot of look, but you get the point! There's more wearability in a short set than you may realize when shopping.

C-ya!

BASIC STEPS TO ELEVATING A CASUAL JUMPER

WhaddaWeGotHere? Taking a  casual jumper (super comfy) and dressing it up in hopes of staying comfortable but being presentable at the same time. Does this strategy work? You decide...

What you see here is a super slouchy, bohemian jump suit, paired with a blazer, belt, pumps and moto jacket.

THE CASUAL JUMPER: this jumper is  "out there" for a couple reasons. #1 the print is of fish. Yes, look closely, those are fish. Where my Pisces people at?? The jumpsuit also has an exaggerated slouchiness about it, which takes it into a very bohemian, casual space.

BELTED IT: the first thing this puppy needs to pull it out of it's "printed madness" is a solid, anchoring belt. This one has chunky hardware, which brings an industrial touch to the look.

WEAR THE CLASSICS: next up, in operation "elevate your jumper" ye ol' black blazer and serious black pumps. These classic pieces settle the eye but are dressy to begin with. Wearing them, pulls the casual up! No brainer, right?

BRING THE LUX AND EDGE: to top it all off,  a moto jacket. Leather or faux leather makes things feel a wittle more expensive.

BREAK OUT THE GOODS: finally, it's about the accessories - in this case a gold bangle and smart watch in mixed metallics.

Am I the only one trying to get away with this "turning casual things into nicer things" thing? Leave comments and tell me if I'm alone on an island or not!
