Obvious fact: People perceive things about you, (whether you like it or not) based on how you present yourself. This is NOT about whether people should judge you on your taste. We all know judging ain't nice.
I'm talking about the basics - what you put on your back "says" something about you. For better or worse.
My philosophy: when it comes to personal style, the most important thing is to have a perspective and then ask yourself if the clothes you're wearing communicate it or not.
IF you're a person who enjoys travel and learning about new cultures, how will I know that about you? You get the point.
It's not about getting crazy or being too literal - it's just about perspective and taking the opportunity when you get dressed, to honor it.
